Jan Martin

Head teacher Welcome

Welcome to St Michael’s Woolmer Green. I feel proud to be the Head Teacher of this very caring school.

Our staff work incredibly hard to create a happy, stimulating and safe environment, where your child will be able to grow in confidence and develop the skills needed to face the many challenges they will meet.

Children are individuals and we aim to cater for each of them as such, so that they can achieve their potential, both academically and socially. We want our children to develop a love of learning that will remain with them as they grow and develop into young citizens.

St Michael’s is part of a community that shares Christian values and has strong links with our nearby church. We support a variety of charities; this helps the children to think of other communities, outside of the school, both local and international and to consider others who are not as fortunate as they are.

We encourage good communication between home and school. Many parents and carers are involved in the Parent Council, which meets half termly to discuss a variety of topics and give feedback to the school about new initiatives. Some parents like to get involved by coming into school and hearing children read or help on school day trips. Others become class representatives and provide the link to ‘The Friends’ of St Michael’s, which helps to raise money towards providing community projects and special events, as well as purchasing important resources for the school.

If you are interested in finding out more about our school, we are holding ‘Open Mornings.’ Please contact the School Office and book a visit.

We look forward to seeing you!

Miss Rolland organised two teams to take to the District Netball Tournament on Wednesday, and both teams had a lot of fun and performed really well. The B team finished 7th and the A team finished 2nd. The behaviour and sportsmanship of both teams was apparently superb throughout. Congratulations to the two teams, and thanks to the staff who accompanied them there.  ...

The children came into school wearing leisure wear today to take part in our Wellbing Carousel Day. They have been enjoying various activities throughout the day based on the "5 Principles of Wellbeing"; connect, be active, take notice, learn and give. Please see the gallery for more photos. Additional pictures will go up later in the week.

Our final indoor athletics event was a team competition with athletes from both Y5 and Y6 representing St. Michael’s. The standard of competition was amazingly high and it was clear that schools had really prepared for the different events. Our own pupils have been choosing to give up some of their break or lunch times to perfect their throwing or jumping techniques and to build their stamina through regular speed bounce sessions; we are pleased to see their enthusiasm and are very proud to see their commitment to keep improving. We are very pr...

This year, St Michael's hosted the annual Road Safety Quiz. Teams from Welwyn St Mary’s, Oaklands, St John’s and ourselves competed, answering rounds of questions based on all aspects of the Highway Code. It was an incredibly exciting contest and the scores were very close. (Half a mark between 1st and 2nd place before the final round!) I am delighted to say that our St Michael’s team came first by 1 mark! Very well done to our team; Lois, Gracie, Freya, Jonathan and Tom....
