Aviva Sportshall Primary Indoor Athletics Triumph!

10 boys and 10 girls represented St Michael’s in the Aviva Sportshall Primary Indoor Athletics competition at Gosling. They competed in Track and Field events against 7 other schools. Events included obstacle relays, speed bounce, over/under relays, javelin, chest push, triple jump etc! The team spirit was tremendous with a huge amount of cheering and encouragement occurring in abundance throughout the whole afternoon. All competitors competed to the best of their ability and some extremely high calibre performances were accomplished particularly in the field events. A special mention goes to Harry Phillips who won the javelin event plus Oliver Wheeler and Imogen Draper who were selected to run for the dream team against the sports leaders in the final relay.

I am proud to announce that the boys team were the winners and the girls team came runners up. Therefore both teams will go through to the district finals at Sir Fredric Osbourne School on 4th February 2016 to represent our family of schools Monks Walk. Mrs Deane.

All key stage two children are welcome to join after Christmas.

The top five scores this term are:

Hertfordshire Service to Sport Award

St. Michael’s, Woolmer Green School has been nominated: School of the Year in the prestigious County Awards ceremony at the University of Hertfordshire on Wednesday 16th December. School Games Organiser, Michelle Salter, put forward the nomination from all the schools in Welwyn and Hatfield District. We will be up against 9 schools representing each of the districts in Herts so fingers crossed. To be recognised amongst the very best schools in Hertfordshire for P.E. and School Sport is a terrific achievement and one which the school community is justifiably proud. Mr. Mallon has been invited to the Awards Ceremony organised by Herts Sports partnership and he will write a report on the event.

Good luck St. Michael’s!

Skipping Results!

St Michael’s children took up the district challenge of how many skips can be done in 60 seconds. Over 80 children volunteered to take part from years 3, 4, 5 and 6.

The results of the top 10 skippers in each year and the top 10 skippers in the whole school are displayed on the Sports noticeboard in the main hall. The standard was amazingly high and if the top 10 skippers skipped for the same minute that would be 1364 skips in 60 seconds! This result is submitted to district and entered into the competition with all other primary schools – I’m sure St Michael’s will fair really well against the other schools. The top 3 boys and girls are:

Boys Girls
Name Year Score Name Year Score
Asher Garnham 6 187 Isabelle Whelan 4 151
Elliot Clifford 5 131 Leah Hardy 5 140
Jonathan Whiteway 6 130 Lola McGuinness 4 130

Well done to all the skippers who took part! Mrs Deane.
