District Netball Tournament

IMG 5211

Miss Rolland organised two teams to take to the District Netball Tournament on Wednesday, and both teams had a lot of fun and performed really well. The B team finished 7th and the A team finished 2nd. The behaviour and sportsmanship of both teams was apparently superb throughout. Congratulations to the two teams, and thanks to the staff who accompanied them there.

Indoor Athletics Success

attach

Our final indoor athletics event was a team competition with athletes from both Y5 and Y6 representing St. Michael’s. The standard of competition was amazingly high and it was clear that schools had really prepared for the different events. Our own pupils have been choosing to give up some of their break or lunch times to perfect their throwing or jumping techniques and to build their stamina through regular speed bounce sessions; we are pleased to see their enthusiasm and are very proud to see their commitment to keep improving. We are very proud to say that St.Michael’s were placed first overall.

Road Safety Quiz

Road Safety Quiz

This year, St Michael's hosted the annual Road Safety Quiz. Teams from Welwyn St Mary’s, Oaklands, St John’s and ourselves competed, answering rounds of questions based on all aspects of the Highway Code. It was an incredibly exciting contest and the scores were very close. (Half a mark between 1st and 2nd place before the final round!) I am delighted to say that our St Michael’s team came first by 1 mark! Very well done to our team; Lois, Gracie, Freya, Jonathan and Tom.

Our New School Display

Newdisplay2

You will remember last year our school display was a rainbow of hands. This year each child in the school has written their name on a heart. This theme fits in really well with our school prayer that ends with, ’So many hearts make a school’. Thank you to Mrs Leake for creating the new display, which looks beautiful.

Junior Travel Ambassadors

JTAs

I spent some time with Year 5 talking through the role of a Junior Travel Ambassador. The children had lots of ideas to contribute and were passionate about improving safety around our school and local area. Those that wished to, filled out an application form and on Tuesday, Chi, from the Herts Road Safety Team came in to award the successful candidates with their JTA packs. Well done to Grace M, Benjamin, Millie, Grace R, Niamh and Megan. We look forward to hearing about all your fantastic ideas and plans. Since this photograph was taken the enthusiastic JTAs have come up with a fantastic initiative to reward safe parking with 'green' parking tickets which they leave on cars outside the school, and also leaving less desirable 'red' parking tickets/warnings on cars which are parked in unsafe places near the school.
