Pirates of the Curry Bean

French Assembly

On Tuesday two ladies from the French twinning association came to the KS2 assembly. Mrs Woods read The Gruffalo to the children in French and Emel was presented with a prize for her hard work in the language this year.

Summer Concert 2018

Last Sunday saw our first Summer Concert, during which the audience enjoyed fabulous performances from the school choir, the school orchestra, various flute and recorder groups as well as soloists on various instruments. It was a feast for the ears, and huge thanks must go to Mrs Hewitt, Mrs Wadey and Mrs Jellett for organising this wonderful experience for the children, and accompanying their performances.

Success at The Mallon Challenge

A group of year 6's went to Monks Walk last week to join up with other children from local schools to create a Monks Walk syndicate super team. This team competed against other syndicates in various sports including netball, hockey, football and athletics. The Monks Walk team was very successful, winning the netball, hockey and boys' football, and eventually becoming the overall winners of the challenge! We were very proud of the children and their team, and brought the cup home for Mr Mallon.

A number of children from Elm Class took part, this week, in the Herts Schools Games. The activities included cycling and various team-building events. Task leaders commended the children for their competitive but positive attitudes.

Beech Class Trip to Fairlands Valley

Beech Trip

Beech Class enjoyed a fabulous trip to Fairlands Valley last week where the children enjoyed canoeing, climbing and the high ropes  The highlight of the day was raft building and then getting very wet!

Science Day

Each class was busy testing out and scrutinising different scientific activities, and drawing various conclusions. They have also been thinking about ‘Clean Air Day’ and how we can all play a part in improving our environment. Redwood Harry Potter Trip

Year 3 had an amazing trip to the Harry Potter Warner Bother’s Studio erday. They flew on broomsticks and had a workshop looking at the materials used to make many of the costumes. Thank you to all the staff who accompanied this trip.

Harrison - Teen Author Visit

Harrison, a teen author, visited the school this week to talk about crreative writing. Harrison is 15 years old and has already had two books published, having written his first at the age of 9. He was very inspiring and the children were really engaged. Some were lucky enough to buy signed copies of his books.

Careers Fair

Careers Fair

Year 6 attended an amazing careers fair last week at Oaklands School. There were paramedics, engineers, artists, authors, hospitality workers, teachers (!) and many other professions represented. It was very interesting and a superb insight into what is out there for our aspiring children. Thank you to all the adults who got them there and back safely to enable them to do this.

The Choir at The Tower of London

Our school choir, under the amazing direction of Mrs Hewitt and Mrs Wadey, joined a few other schools to sing at the Tower of London! It was an increcible opportunity, and one which was enjoyed immensely. Our children sang beautifully and behaved impeccably. Thank you to all the adults who accompanied them, and especially to Mrs Hewitt and Mrs Wadey for all their organisation. Wonderful!

District Athletics Gosling

Children from years 3-6 took part in the annual District Sports competition at Gosling on Wednesday. St Michael's did really well, winning the Small Schools Field Events Cup, and the girls won their relay by 100th of a second! It was a really fun afternoon full of team spirit. Thank you to Miss Prentice for her amazing organisation.
