Sad news

You will be sorry to learn the sad news that our headteacher Mr Mallon died on 18th April. We felt that it was right to tell the children rather than they hear the news through rumours. They were told by their class teachers, who will continue to be available to answer any questions the children may have. We know this can be a difficult subject to discuss with children and if we can be of any help, do please contact us.

Support for all the school community is being provided by the Diocesan Board of Education, local clergy and by Hertfordshire Critical Incident Team.

There will, in due course, be an opportunity for the whole school community to join together to remember and celebrate Mr Mallon's life and his contribution to St Michael's VA Primary School. In the meantime, I am sure you will join the school community in sending sincerest condolences to Mr Mallon's family.

Choir Sings "Noah"

IMG 3599

On Thursday this week St Michael's School Choir gave a mini 'taster' to the rest of the school of a cantata that they have been working on. They performed two parts of a cantata called Captain Noah and His Floating Zoo by Joseph Horovitz. The children were enthusiastic and full of vigour and we look forward to hearing more of the cantata in due course. Thank you to Mrs Hewitt and Mrs Wadey for they work in rehearsing and accompanying the choir each week.

Our school mosaic is coming on really well already! The children are hands on, and - under the guidance of David Bowers from Mosaic Madness - they are creating a wonderful lasting floor sculpture for our playground. Here you can see some Year 4 children putting together one of the 'Peace' sections. Thanks, again, to the Friends for this fabulous venture.

World Book Day Winners!

IMG 3380

Well done to all the children (and staff!) for coming to school today in such wonderful character costumes, and thank you to all the parents/carers who had a hand in making it possible. Special congratulations go to the 14 winners - two from each class - who you can see in the photograph above. The time, imagination and detail that has gone into the costumes that we have seen today is incredible. The children spent the rest of the day doing activity work relating to their book theme. A lot of fun was had by all.

On Friday Key Stage 1 enthralled us with a delightful Nativity play called "Hey Ewe!" All of the children entertained us with their acting, dancing and singing as well as word perfect spoken lines. We would like to say a huge thank you to all of the children, to the parents who supported them at home, and of course to the staff who put the whole production together. Well done to all!
